Johnstown, Pennsylvania to Houston, Texas

It’s road trip time, cutting through the heart of the country. We’ll be driving for two and a half days, covering 1406 miles. That drive won’t be a straight shot, which will lead to a bit slower 64.6mph pace. That translates to a daily target of 517 miles a day. On this election day, let’s see America!

DAY ONE (Thursday)

Johnstown, Pennsylvania

It’s going to be a soggy start as we leave Johnstown. The rain will have fallen over western Pennsylvania and Ohio throughout the night, however, it will be at an end, practically by the time we are past Pittsburgh. The roads are going to be wet, and valleys a bit foggy as we move through the undulating terrain of southeastern Ohio. By the time we hit Zanesville, though, the sun should be out, and starting to get our eyes on our southwestward trek. As we arrive in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, the pit stop for the night, the sun will be down, and the roads will be dry.

DAY TWO (Friday)
A post frontal trough is hanging out on the back end of the the deep area of low pressure that will bring us the rain initially tomorrow. This boundary is being chased by strong high pressure, however, which is going to promote a dry environment. I only bring this system up because otherwise there wouldn’t be much to talk about for this drive to Malvern, Arkansas, which is just across the highway from Hot Springs.

DAY THREE (Saturday)
The weekend, and ourselves, will be arriving in Houston on Saturday. The Piney Woods will start clouding up as low pressure begins to emerge in the Big Bend, with rain and showers starting in central Texas. Houston should stave off he wet weather before we arrive, but as I noted, there might be a little activity around Nacogdoches or Lufkin that requires our wipers. Hot and humid in Houston, just like always.
