All the same in the end
Everybody forecasting in Chattanooga on Wednesday came up with different solutions, but were met with surprisingly similar results. The temperature climbed to 72 degrees on Thursday, so the warm forecasts of Victoria-Weather, the Weather Service and Weatherbug won out. The temperatures plummeted to 35 with clear skies, which gave the top forecast then to Accuweather. Friday was owned by The Weather Channel, who pegged the high and low. In the end, everyone (except Weatherbug) had 15 degrees of error. Weatherbug was one degree better, however they were off a on rain Friday. Light showers stayed north of town, so the two outlets that didn't have rain in the forecast, The Weather Channel and the Weather Service were the two that nosed out the rest in a surprisingly tight contest.
Actuals: Thursday, High 72, Low 35
Friday, High 68, Low 48

As we've alluded to before, I always seem to wind up with forecasts with nothing but high pressure overhead. Well, this forecast is no different... except there's a CHANCE of rain possible! A chance! My streak is over! The impending calamity will lead to food shortages all over the city! Okay, I'm over-exaggerating slightly. Let's get into what really is going on with our forecast.
At 1253PM EST, the temperature at Chattanooga, TN was 58 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. High pressure is controlling the entire Eastern Seaboard (big surprise), but with a strong low pressure system pushing out of the Rockies into the Central US on Thursday, the high pressure will shift off over the Atlantic. Partly cloudy skies are expected on Thursday as the flow starts to turn around from the south once again. Our intensifying storm system over the Central US will continue to push east past the MS River Valley Friday morning, making its way to the Appalachians by midday. Most of the shower activity will be farther north, but a few light showers are expected along the tail end of the system as the front pushes up and over the mountains. If anything, it'll be a cloudy afternoon, but temperatures will still be quite pleasant over the region.
Thursday: Partly cloudy. High 69, Low 45.
Friday: Increasing clouds, isolated shower late. High 68, Low 46.
TWC: Thursday: Partly cloudy. High 66, Low 44.
Friday: Partly cloudy. High 68, Low 48.
AW: Thursday: Partly sunny and mild. High 68, Low 42.
Friday: Mostly cloudy, slight chance of shower. High 68, Low 44.
NWS: Thursday: Mostly sunny. High 69, Low 43.
Friday: Partly sunny. High 70, Low 46.
WB: Thursday: Mostly sunny. High 69, Low 43.
Friday: Partly sunny, isolated chance of evening shower. High 70, Low 47.
Here we see some high clouds streaming into the area off to the northwest. Tomorrow should be on the quiet side with these high clouds shifting into the area, but continued dry.
Excuse me while I eat my crow
I made fun of Accuweather during the forecast for their seemingly ostentatious prediction of a high of 97 on Sunday in Chattanooga. Color me surprised when I saw that the high temperature actually did reach 97 ahead of a weak cold front that didn't produce any wet weather for the Chattanooga area. Of course, there was a bit of rain with the isolated storms on Saturday. Really, nothing went quite as expected over the weekend for most of us, but Accuweather did come away with the top forecast.
Actuals: Saturday - Trace of rain, High 92, Low 77
Sunday - High 97, Low 76

We're keeping it in the southeast this early afternoon with a trip to eastern Tennessee.
At 1253PM, ET, Chattanooga was reporting a temperature of 93 degrees with clear skies. The remnants of TD 5 continued to spin idly over southern Mississippi, which was cutting off much of the moisture that would typically be expected for the area this time of year. There were still isolated cells over north Georgia, but most of the area was free of thunderstorms.
The weak remnants of 5 will continue to reside over the eastern Gulf Coast for the next several days. Expect the system to keep most of the heavy weather away from Chattanooga for the next 48 hours, however an encroaching cold front from the west will introduce the threat from wet weather Sunday, while a lingering boundary that has seemingly not left since March may bring a very isolated storm Saturday afternoon. All in all, by the standards of the southeast, expect fairly tranquil conditions.
Tomorrow - Very isolated storms, High 95, Low 75
Sunday - Storms becoming more scattered, High 91, Low 75
TWC: Tomorrow - Variable clouds with scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon. Humid High 89, Low 76
Sunday - A few thunderstorms possible High 90, Low 75
AW: Tomorrow - Very warm with periods of sun; a couple of afternoon showers and a thunderstorm High 94, Low 75
Sunday - Intervals of clouds and sunshine, hot and humid with a couple of showers and a thunderstorm High 97, Low 75
NWS: Tomorrow - A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny and ho High 95, Low 76
Sunday - A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy and ho High 94, Low 74
WB: Tomorrow - Partly sunny with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, High 95, Low 76
Sunday - Mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, High 94, Low 74
Who needs models? Certainly not Accuweather! Let's jack that temperature all the way up to 97! Here is the satellite, showing the most inclement weather down there along the Gulf Coast.

Steamy days
Chattanooga was forecast to see some hot weather, especially when compared to what they should be at in early May. Temperatures fluttered around in the high 80s for the past couple of days, which. if nothing else will help the state dry out after their torrential rains. The Weather Channel and Accuweather tied atop the leader board.
Actuals: Wednesday - High 87, Low 57
Thursday - High 88, Low 60
Grade: A

In one sense, we couldn't have asked for a better week to talk about the weather of Tennessee. Of course, the reason for that is devastating and melancholy. Perhaps we can bring some better news to Chattanooga.
At 953PM, ET, Chattanooga was reporting a temperature of 68 degrees with clear skies. They are presently between systems, and will enjoy a quiet night. The front that had dumped so much rain on Tennessee is now sitting along the Carolina coast, and the next system lies over the northern Plains, with a cold front tailing through Iowa.
This system is likely not to spread it's influence as far south as Chattanooga, and is going to occlude rather rapidly thanks to a fairly east-west flowing jet. This will mean a warm up, uncomfortable perhaps to some, thanks to the flow associated with the system, and the cold front likely will not dip further south than the Great Lakes. A minor cool down is a possibility on Thursday with a change in wind direction to come more from the west-northwest, but it will not come with precipitation.
Tomorrow - Partly cloudy and hot, High 89, Low 59
Thursday - Continued hot, with a some clouds in the afternoon, High 90, Low 62
TWC: Tomorrow - Sunny skies. Warm High 87, Low 56
Thursday - More sun than clouds. High 89, Low 59
AW: Tomorrow - Very warm with sunshine High 88, Low 56
Thursday - Mostly sunny and very warm High 87, Low 60
NWS: Tomorrow - Sunny, High 87, Low 57
Thursday - Sunny High 87, Low 57
WB: Tomorrow - Sunny High 89, Low 59
Thursday - Sunny High 89, Low 59
And the NWS point forecast done broke again. That's a shame. Here is the satellite, showing you where the recent front pulled off to.
