Fall is certainly in the air for much of the country. In New England and the eastern Great Lakes today, though, the only fall people are worrying about is “rain fall”.
At 953AM, ET, Utica was reporting a temperature of 57 degrees with overcast skies. Lower clouds were found to the east in the Hudson Valley, while the heaviest rain is found further east in New England. Guidance painted a very damp portrait of the day for Utica, but it looks like they will mostly dodge the significant wet weather. There are a few splashes of rain downstate that could afflict Utica later, but it looks like today will be better than expected.
A strong upper level trough is sagging into the northern tier of states, but the northerly turning portion of the jet lies west of Utica, which will be good news for local residents not fans of the cold. Even better, the jet trough is forecast to recede to the north, rather than progress eastward, which will prohibit an attendant cold front from advancing towards the Finger Lakes. Instead, high pressure is on it’s way for the weekend in Utica.

Difference of opinions on the showers on Saturday, but I think it really is looking good. Take a look at this cool satellite image, where you can definitely make out the jet aloft over the northern US.
