After so much talk about warm ups and how nice things are getting across the country, let’s just say we are in for a rude awakening as we begin our forecast in Cheyenne.
At 953PM, MT, Cheyenne was reporting overcast skies with a brisk north wind and a temperature of 30 degrees. There was snow being reported in Laramie and other places in higher terrain west of town, with a little bit of light rain reported in Kimball, just over the border in Nebraska. The low tops to the clouds meant that the activity was barely visible on radar, though it has been widely encapsulated into the latest model guidance.
A cut off upper level circulation is barely reflected at the surface, but it continues to churn, centered along the Wyoming/Colorado border. Eventually, there is a a trough moving through Canada — northern Canada at that — that may try to absorb the system well to the south and begin the rocess of a warm up, and dry out in Cheyenne, however this is not anticipated to happen until after our forecast period expires. For our purposes, anticipate continued overcast with periodic bouts of precipitation. Some afternoon rain might mix with snow overnight.

Nobody is on the same page for tis forecast. I think the chances are better for precipitaton than not, but again, I think the best chances come with even higher elevation. Let’s see what happens. Radar is not terribly impressive. The real show is in he satellite, because it’s low clouds preducing any precipitation.
