We are headed down south for our forecast this evening. What is on the docket just north of the Florida border?
At 1053PM, ET, Valdosta was reporting a temperature of 75 degrees with partly cloudy skies. Dew points were in the upper 60s with a light northeast wind in response to a wave still embedded within the Gulfstream. Aloft, there is a weak trough with southerly flow, providing a good shear environment, and a hospitable environment for thunderstorms along the Florida coast. Indeed, there were isolated cells filling Apalachee Bay.
This pattern is expected to remain unchanged for the next couple of days, with a robust shear environment over the Florida Panhandle, and weak low pressure over the Gulf Stream. Most of the convection associated with these features will hug the coast, but particularly in the afternoon, the cap over Valdosta may break, and there could be a few showers and storms.

The forecast dip in temperature is due to a forecast strengthening in that low off the coast, which means thicker clouds in Valdosta. Here is the radar, with some convection south of Tallahassee. This will be pretty similar for the next couple of days.
