Hey, gang, we haven’t bee out west for a while, so let’s make a trip.
At 358PM, PT, Chico was reporting a temperature of 100 degrees with mostly cloudy skies. Chico was the exception in the clouds, but hardly the exception when it came to those triple digit temperatures. There was a well defined thermal ridge on the west coast, leading to the scorching temperatures through the northern Centra Valley.
As a trough in the north central US deepens and becomes orphaned in the northern Plains, the ridge will be blocked along the west coast. The temperatures out west will remain very warm, with little change in the pattern in sight.
