Time for a little late night forecasting. We’re off to the Gulf Coast, where we are in for a little bit of rain.
At 153AM, CT, Mobile was reporting a temperature of 49 degrees with overcast skies. A surface wave was showing up quite well with surface observations south of Louisiana. A weak surface warm front was generating rain and clouds that were showing up well on the Mobile radar south of Mobile Bay.
The upper level trough is diminishing and getting folded into a broader jet stream that is moving through the Great Lakes. The upper level process will distort the surface low to become elongated through the day today. Rainfall will stretch northward into Mobile this afternoon, and may be heavy at times. Fortunately, the new upper level structure will also encourage the system to move quickly. While this afternoon will be fairly rainy, it will clear out by the time midnight rolls around. Clouds will linger, as the broader jet will remain over the Ohio Valley and will continue to draw moisture off the Gulf.
