I find it strange that a town called Rocky Mount isn’t near the Rocky Mountains, and also, isn’t even in the mountainous part of North Carolina.
At 553PM, ET, Rocky Mount was reporting a temperature of 71 degrees with sunny skies. A ridge over the Atlantic is generating a moist south, southeast flow In the Mid Atlantic, it’s causing clouds and fog, but in southern Virginia and eastern North Carolina, it’s touched of a few showers and storm.s The largest cluster of storms was near Richmond, Virginia, but showers were being seen from Goldsboro to Fayetteville as well.
The trough that has dug into the west, and eventually central part of the country is well on it’s way to becoming cut off. The heaviest rain is not going to be able to make it’s way east because the now cut off low will languish in the Mississippi Valley. Tomorrow will continue to have the threat for occasional showers and storms, as onshore flow on the back side of the Bermuda high will continue to destabilize the area. That said, we can expect things to calm down on Friday morning, with some chances for showers late as the low in the southern Plains finally begins to unravel.
